Buyer Resources
Our partners are extremely important and help us accomplish our goals.
Disclaimer: While we have worked with these partners for a long time, often for years, we cannot guarantee their work. We watch our partner list closely, as they do with us, and ensure that they are serving our clients with the same consideration and care that we do.
Weather and Road Conditions
We recommend checking road conditions between November-March to ensure you’re prepared. Chains are required to be carried from November 1 - April 1, regardless of Weather or road conditions. Big Bear roads get hit hard by a mix of hot and freezing conditions, and the chains on heavy vehicles and snow plow buckets don’t help! Check for closures or road work in the Summer/Spring months so you might miss a time-wasting road block.
Cal Trans
Cal Trans (California Transportation) sets current road conditions and enforces them alongside CHP (California Highway Patrol). Call their hotline at 1-800-427-7623, or check them out online at http://dot.ca.gov.
KBHR
The local radio station is also helpful to see this information https://kbhr933.com/big-bear-roads/. KBHR can also be heard on the radio at 93.3 FM and 102.5 FM.
Ben’s Weather
We check two sources for weather that we find to be the most accurate. Ben’s Weather is a great local resource found here: http://bensweather.com. I (Chris) also use the weather app on my iPhone pretty regularly during the day. We have agents that live all over the valley… Give us a call for a real-life update where we’re at!
What do the 3 “R”s mean?
R1 - Chains are required on all commercial vehicles (trucks or buses). All other vehicles(cars, pick-ups, vans, etc.) must have either snow tread tires or chains on the drive axis.
R2 - Chains are required on all vehicles except four-wheel drives with snow tread tires. Four-wheel drive vehicles must carry chains in the vehicle.
R3 - Chains required on all vehicles - No exceptions.
Remember - Chains are required to be in your vehicle regardless of drive train! Don’t get a ticket!
